about

We practice Zen-inspired meditation in the Fernwood neighbourhood of Victoria, British Columbia. We have no formal affiliation with any teacher, institution, or lineage. Some of us have practiced in such traditions as Vietnamese, Vipassana, Tibetan, Soto and Rinzai Zen, others come without prior experience.

Many of us work and volunteer in health-care and teaching; some are single, others with families; in age we range from 22 to 82. We don’t have an organizational structure and don’t charge fees. Everyone is welcome.

Peter’s living room and garden are our “zendo” (meditation hall). They’re open twice a week for an hour of sitting & walking meditation, followed by tea. From time to time we organize a retreat or ride-share to a monastery.

We support each other in the spirit of the Buddha’s final admonition: “Be lamps unto yourselves. Rely on yourselves, and do not rely on external help. Hold fast to the truth as a lamp. Seek salvation alone in the truth. Look not to assistance to anyone besides yourselves.”
